James Maddison and Harvey Barnes set to lead clearout at Leicester

James Maddison and Harvey Barnes are set to lead a MASS summer clearout at Leicester after their surprise relegation, with seven players out of contract and Wilfred Ndidi also attracting Premier League interest

  • James Maddison will be one of several players to leave Leicester this summer
  • The Foxes were relegated yesterday despite defeating West Ham 2-1 at home
  • Maddison is a target for several clubs and will leave alongside another big name

James Maddison will lead a mass summer clear out at Leicester as the club look to ease the financial devastation caused by Premier League relegation.

Maddison and Harvey Barnes are set to lead the King Power exodus after their relegation into the Championship was confirmed on Sunday, with the Foxes hoping to recoup upwards of £80million for the pair.

Maddison is a target for Newcastle, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham.

The Magpies, who will play Champions League football next season, are understood to be early favourites to land England international Maddison.

Aston Villa and West Ham are among the clubs keen on Barnes, who Leicester hope they can receive £40million for.

It comes as Leicester’s relegation to the Championship was confirmed yesterday as Everton defeated Bournemouth 1-0 making it impossible for the Foxes to overtake them despite a 2-1 win against West Ham

Key midfielder Youri Tielemans will also leave the club on a free transfer.

Roma and Borussia Dortmund are keen on the Belgium midfielder.

Defender Caglar Soyuncu is set to join Atletico Madrid when his contract expires next month.

Jonny Evans, Daniel Amartey, Ryan Bertrand, Papy Mendy and Ayoze Perez are also out of contract ahead of next season.

Leicester will also likely sell midfielder Wilfried Ndidi, who is attracting a number of Premier League sides.

In a statement yesterday, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha has apologised to supporters whilst also revealing he has been targeted with abusive messages.

‘This responsibility that I continue to live is one of the greatest responsibilities in my life and I will continue to put everything into it – my passion, that of my family and the entire King Power community,” he said.

‘I have received a massive number of messages from our fans – both positive and negative. Some want me to sell the club, some using offensive and thoughtless words, and some have been outright abusive.

‘But for every hurtful message I have received, I have also received messages of support, of appreciation, of unity – both remotely and from people I have met anonymously in public, who always come to say hello to me and to my family. It means a lot to us.’
