Jadon Sancho to formally join Man Utd – but he won’t train until August

Jadon Sancho will be allowed to spend time away from football before joining Manchester United training for the first time – with his transfer set to be finalised this week.

The 21-year-old, who left Manchester City back in 2017, has gone from strength to strength in Germany and has twice been named in the Bundesliga team of the season.

While Dortmund were keen to keep hold of the forward, they agreed last summer that he would only need to stay for another season, and is set to cost the Red Devils £73m.

More recently, Sancho helped England reach the final of Euro 2020 with a positive quarter-final performance against Ukraine, but was one of three stars to miss in the shoot-out defeat to Italy.

As was always the plan, the Mirror report that Sancho will officially sign for United before taking a three week break and then beginning training with his new team-mates.

Sancho is said to have agreed a five-year deal with his new side, with his contract worth in the region of £250,000-a-week, making the deal worth a total of £65m in wages alone.

All United players involved at Euro 2020, including England's Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw, have been handed the extended break – and won't return until August 2.

That comes just days before the new season starts on August 11, with Sancho joining Tom Heaton as the first of the summer additions at United.

United said on July 1: "Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Jadon Sancho.

"The signing is subject to contractual terms and a medical, which will be completed after Jadon's involvement in the UEFA European Championship."
