Jack Wilshere suffers nightmare debut as light failure disrupts Aarhus defeat

Jack Wilshere's long-awaited return to football couldn't have gone much worse, as the former Arsenal star endured a nightmare debut for Danish side AGF Aarhus.

The midfielder was named amongst the substitutes for Aarhus' visit to relegation threatened Vejle BK, and made his debut with three minutes to go, with the game level at 2-2.

However, he was made to wait even longer than expected as a floodlight failure delayed the game for over ten minutes, but the Englishman finally got the moment he had been waiting for since his release from Bournemouth at the end of last season.

It was a moment that was quickly ruined by the home side, as they took full advantage of the lengthy stoppage time that was added on and found a winner in the 100th minute of the game.

It was only Vejle's third win of the season as they continue to struggle in the Danish Superliga, but they picked up three valuable points at the expense of Wilshere's new side.

It was an unfortunate welcoming to Danish football for Wilshere, who has been desperate to revive his career ever since leaving Bournemouth.

Wilshere almost joined Italian Serie B side Como in the summer, but an issue with his passport meant that he would have to wait at least another six months before attempting to find a new club.

The midfielder had been training with former side Arsenal, after ex-team-mate and current Gunners boss Mikel Arteta granted Wilshere permission to join sessions.

There were even reports that Wilshere could be offered a short-term deal with his old side, but they were wide of the mark, and the midfielder had to make the move to Denmark to seize a rare opportunity.

Wilshere will be hoping that this isn't a sign of things to come though, as the Englishman hasn't exactly had the luckiest ride in his career, after being tipped as the next big thing at Arsenal.
