Inter Milan have new plan to sign Romelu Lukaku after Chelsea reject loan bid
Talks between Chelsea and Inter Milan over Romelu Lukaku’s future will fire up again this week as the Italians come up with a plan to bring the striker back to Serie A.
The Belgian spent last season on loan at Inter from Chelsea and returns to west London at the end of that short-term deal, but he would rather be in Italy than England for the next campaign.
Inter made another loan offer earlier this month for the forward, but Chelsea rejected it, preferring to sell Lukaku on a permanent deal.
The Evening Standard report that Inter will come back to the negotiating table with a new offer that would see Lukaku return to the San Siro on loan for the forthcoming season, but with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.
Obviously the size of that fee and any payment for another season’s loan will be up for discussion, with Inter trying to spread the cost of the deal as they go through financial difficulties.
The 30-year-old has made it clear that he does not want to be playing for Chelsea in the future, but he is not willing to accept other deals outside of a return to Inter.
Al-Hilal have made two offers to Chelsea to take the Belgian to the Saudi Pro League, which the club would be happy with as a big fee would be involved, but the striker is not interested, despite a reported offer of a £16m-a-year salary.
Reports last week suggested that Chelsea would accept offers of £40m for Lukaku, which would be a huge loss on the £97.5m they paid for him in 2021, before he played just one season before leaving on loan.
An issue for Inter wanting to pursue another loan deal is that new FIFA rules state that clubs can only have seven outgoing loans and Chelsea would prefer those spots to be used on young, developing players.
