Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been discussing his Manchester United future with former boss Sir Alex Ferguson in private meetings.
The Portuguese icon is understood to have enjoyed regular chats with the legendary Red Devils manager over cups of tea this season at their respective luxury Cheshire homes, according to The Mirror.
Ronaldo, who lives close to Ferguson, has been a regular visitor at the Scotsman’s house while also hosting the Old Trafford hero at his own home. Ferguson is said to have been integral in the forward choosing United over rivals Manchester City last summer before he completed a £12.9million move.
And Sir Alex is reportedly keen to protect Ronaldo’s Man United legacy once more by convincing him to stay beyond this season.
Ronaldo, 37, has enjoyed a spectacular individual campaign despite the club’s woeful form throughout the season. He has scored 24 goals for the Red Devils, including hat-tricks against Tottenham and Norwich.

But while the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has another year left on his deal with the option of a third season, United’s lacklustre performances this season have led to increasing speculation that he may leave in the summer.
The Mirror suggest Fergie would like his former star to remain at Old Trafford for at least another season. And they have even reportedly chatted about United’s decline this season.
Ronaldo has up until now remained quiet on his future plans as new managerial appointment Erik ten Hag gets ready to replace interim boss Ralf Rangnick this summer.
The ex-Real Madrid and Juventus forward’s only clue regarding his future may have been his celebration after scoring in the 3-0 win over Brentford. There, the attacker pointed to himself and then the pitch before completing his trademark 'Siuuu' pose.
But he was also spotted laughing in disbelief during United’s 4-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. The Portuguese captain couldn’t help but let out a chuckle as the Red Devils conceded their third goal of the game at the Amex Stadium.
It may have been an indication of how Ronaldo feels about the quality of the squad as they were humiliated in their penultimate game of the season. Yet United fans will be hoping their talisman has not given up on the club just yet.
