Incredible Chris Kamara tribute by Middlesbrough fans earns pundit’s thanks

Chris Kamara has thanked Middlesbrough fans for their "unbelievable" tribute to him during their home game against Rotherham on Saturday night.

Kamara, who was born in Middlesbrough, was forced to quit Sky Sports at the end of last season due to the apraxia condition that affects his speech. Earlier this week he said that he now feels like "a fraud" as a broadcaster, prompting football supporters to rally around the Soccer Saturday legend.

And Boro fans went one step further at the Riverside Stadium during their Championship fixture on Saturday evening, unfurling a banner which read: "You’re not a fraud, you’re unbelievable Kammy."

Kammy, who has over 1.8million followers on Twitter, responded underneath a post of the image tweeted by Middlesbrough's club account and said: "Wow that is 'Unbelievable Jeff' Thank You."

The original snap of the banner has so far been liked over 21,000 times, showing the esteem in which the 64-year-old is held. One supporter commented underneath: "Love this, huge credit to the fans, and all of the love for the amazing @chris_kammy."

As a third person wrote: "This is beautiful. @chris_kammy you are one of the true legends of the sport. Your work with Sky Sports in particular was absolutely iconic."

While another user added: "Lovely to see this! #unbeliveablejeff."

"I feel a fraud now in terms of broadcasting," Kamara told the Diary of a CEO podcast earlier this week when discussing his apraxia. "I don’t bring to the table what I used to.

"So that’s hard, my life away from the screen couldn’t be any better. Grandkids, family, it’s perfect. I feel I’m doing these programmes and they’re not getting the best of me, but they’re tolerating me, that’s how it feels."
