Ian Wright stars in new Netflix film after announcing Match of the Day departure

Arsenal legend Ian Wright's appearance in a new Netflix movie has been revealed in a recent trailer.

Wright, 60, recently announced he will be stepping away from punditry duties on the Premier League highlights show Match of the Day. However, a new trailer of the upcoming hit movie 'The Kitchen' recently highlighted to fans that he has swapped the iconic red sofa for the red carpet.

A brief snippet of him appearing in Daniel Kaluuya's new movie was recently shared across social media. Considering the timing of the video being released, many fans are starting to get excited about his Hollywood debut.

The film, which is co-directed by Kaluuya and Kibwe Tavares, is believed to be set in a dystopian, future version of London, where the working class all live in an unsafe part of the capital known simply as: "The Kitchen."

It is not the first time Wright has acted in a film. He had a rather brief appearance in the iconic football comedy and drama show Ted Lasso. However, the Kitchen will certainly be Wright's most high-profile movie appearance to date.

It comes barely 24 hours after he announced he will be stepping away from Match of the Day.

He informed the football world about his decision on social media when he tweeted: “After my debut show whilst still a player in 1997 and many more memorable years, I’ll be stepping back from BBC MOTD at the end of this season.

“I feel very privileged to have had such an incredible run on the most iconic football show in the world. Anyone that knows my story knows how much the show has meant to me since I was a young boy. Match of the Day is my Holy Grail.

"On my first ever show, I told [presenter] Des Lynam, ‘This is my Graceland’. It will always be my Graceland and I will always be watching.”
