Henry and Richards revel in Carragher’s anxiety over Liverpool

For Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, the Reds concerning first-half display against Villarreal was no laughing matter – but his anxious reaction certainly left Thierry Henry and Micah Richards in stitches.

Jurgen Klopp's men carried a 2-0 lead into Tuesday's Champions League semi-final second-leg at El Madrigal after comfortably cruising past the Yellow Submarine last week. The Spanish side were heavily criticised by some for their approach to the Anfield encounter and many felt Liverpool had already guaranteed their place in next month's final before a ball had even been kicked in the second-leg.

However, those views proved to be highly ill-judged. Two first-half goals from Boulaye Dia and ex-Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin saw Villarreal silence the doubters and tie the contest come Tuesday night's interval – much to the astonishment of those watching on.

Liverpool followers were left to endure a nerve-racking 15 minute-break in proceedings after seeing the advantage they had accrued at Anfield sensationally wiped out inside 45 minutes. And perhaps one of those left the most shell-shocked by Villarreal's first-half fightback was Carragher.

The former Reds favourite could be seen anxiously prowling the CBS studio at the half-time interval as his nerves got the better of him. However, the same couldn't be said about Henry and Richards.

The punditry pair were seen hilariously rocking in their chairs in fits of laughter as they concluded their half-time analysis without Carragher, who continued to pace nervously off-camera. "Look at Carra!" Henry announced while pointing at his fellow pundit as both he and Richards couldn't help but revel in the former Liverpool defenders angst.

CBS host Kate Abdo attempted to restore order by issuing former Manchester City defender Richards with a warning ahead of Wednesday night when his old side one again lock horns with Real Madrid. She said: "Micah, be careful! Your team comes tomorrow night!"

Henry then added: "Hey, this is what happened to Arsenal in the Champions League, yet I am laughing like this!" The pair then continued to chuckle away as they saw the funny side of Carragher's concerns.

In the end, it would be the former Liverpool man who would have the last laugh. An inspired second-half comeback saw goals from Fabinho, Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane once again flip the game on its head, as the Reds claimed a stunning 3-2 triumph – 5-2 on aggregate – to book their place in next month's Champions League final.
