Hazard’s ex-team-mate claims he played Mario Kart minutes before Chelsea games

Former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis has claimed that Eden Hazard lacks the "ambition" to be one of the best players in the world, revealing that the forward "would be playing Mario Kart in the dressing room" five minutes before a game was due to start.

Luis played alongside Hazard for one season at Chelsea and believes the Belgian international "has so much talent".

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Luis said: "Eden, along with Neymar, are the best players I have ever played alongside – up there with Messi.

"He didn't train well, five minutes before the game he would be playing Mario Kart in the dressing room. He would warm-up without tying his bootlaces up.

"Then no-one could take the ball off of him. He would dribble past three or four players and win games on his own.

"Hazard has so much talent. Perhaps he lacks a little bit of ambition to say: I am going to be the best player in the world. Because he could be."

Luis' own time at Chelsea did not work out, with the Brazilian brought in to replace Ashley Cole.

However, Cesar Azpilicueta ended up becoming Jose Mourinho's first-choice left-back and Luis returned to Atletico Madrid just a year after leaving.

Reflecting on his short stay at Stamford Bridge, Luis said: "When I was on the bench for the first game of the season I knocked on Mourinho’s office door and said: 'Why did you bring me here? Why didn’t you just leave me at Atletico?'
