Harry Maguire risks Cristiano Ronaldo bust-up by mocking team-mate on Instagram

Harry Maguire has risked another bust-up with Cristiano Ronaldo after appearing to mock his Manchester United team-mate on social media.

Maguire 'liked' a post on Instagram which repeated a newspaper claim that Ronaldo wants to leave Old Trafford because he's being forced to accept a huge wage cut.

United's failure to secure Champions League football means Erik Ten Hag's squad will see their salaries reduced by 25% ahead of the new campaign. It means Ronaldo will be more than £125,000-a-week out of pocket if he remains at United.

Maguire appeared to poke fun at Ronaldo when liking the post, but has since claimed he did it by mistake and has now deleted the message.

The England defender endured a miserable season last time out following a string of woeful performances which saw fuming United supporters call for him to be dropped and axed as captain.

To make matters worse reports emerged of him and Ronaldo being involved in a power struggle which left the United dressing room divided.

It is understood Ronaldo wanted to replace Maguire as skipper, but the centre back was unwilling to relinquish the armband.

United denied the claims and former interim boss Ralf Rangnick kept Maguire as captain until the end of the season.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, has still not reported back for pre-season training due to 'family reasons' and is not expected to be with the United squad that leaves for Bangkok on Friday (July 8) for the start of the club's pre-season tour.
