The Harry Kane to Manchester City saga continues to crop up everywhere, with England’s number nine wanting to leave Tottenham to join the reigning Premier League champions. Kane, 28, has played for Tottenham for his entire career, amassing 166 league goals in just 242 league games.

However, the renewed efforts to sign him from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, coupled with his inability to win a single trophy in his career, has left Kane wanting a move to last season’s Champions League finalists.

City had a £100million bid rejected for Kane last month.

However, having had a gentlemen’s agreement with Daniel Levy about departing The Lilywhites, he feels the best way to go about it is to not attend training.

Yet, former Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov claims Kane is going about his business the wrong way – having done exactly the same himself.

Berbatov, who completed a £30.75m move to Manchester United from Spurs in 2008, has warned Kane that his actions won’t make much of a difference when it comes to making the transfer happen.

Speaking to Betfair, the former Bulgaria international said: “I missed two games for Spurs when my transfer to United was about to happen and, looking back, I don’t think it played much of a role in getting my move. I didn’t skip training but I showed that I wanted to leave.”

“It was an unfortunate situation and it was tearing me apart inside because I’m not the type of person who wants to do that. When it comes to this moment, you need to be tough, unfortunately, and in business you need to be tough and stand your ground. The person who is the most affected when you do this is the player.”

“Physically and mentally, it gets you down. You think about all scenarios and you get mentally exhausted.

Even though I did it, one of the worst things that could happen would be for Kane to boycott Spurs matches.”

“That would be painful to watch and difficult to swallow for the fans and everybody connected with the club. I don’t want to see that happening. It would put even more fuel on the fire.”

“I want the situation to be resolved before the season starts so that the team and player have time to adjust.

“Spurs may not have a replacement for Kane yet but they may already be looking at who they can get with the money to replace him. It’s going to be a big gap to fill.”

Tottenham have vehemently declared that they won’t accept less than £150m for Kane, which would give them suitable funds to rebuild.

It is a similar situation to which they endured in 2013 when Gareth Bale made the switch to Real Madrid for £85.1m – in which they rebuilt and ended up in the Champions League final years later.
