Harry Kane in U-turn over Tottenham training return despite second no-show
Harry Kane has once again failed to report for Tottenham pre-season training on Tuesday but has performed a U-turn and will return despite pushing for a move to Manchester City.
The England captain, who has had three weeks off following Euro 2020, was a no-show at the north London club’s training ground on Monday when he was due to undergo a Covid test and usual bloodwork tests before his return.
Once again on Tuesday he stayed away from training, despite Spurs being prepared to dish out a significant fine, and there were suggestions he would boycott training until he was granted a transfer.
But now the Evening Standard report that Kane believes his non-appearance at training ‘has been blown out of proportion’ and he will return later this week in a massive U-turn.
After radio silence on Monday, the player and club are believed to have spoken and Kane has made Tottenham’s hierarchy fully aware of his plans and the intention behind his no-show.
Far from refusing to ever play for the club again, the 28-year-old simply wanted to make his position over a transfer as clear as possible.
Kane believes he has a gentleman’s agreement to leave Spurs if an offer in excess of £100million is made, which is what City offered back in June – though Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy rejected it out of hand.
Spurs are believed to want at least £150m for their star striker, though that price tag only applies to foreign clubs and they would expect significantly more from a Premier League rival.
Despite Kane’s stance relenting somewhat in the past few hours, with the forward set to take part in training by the weekend at the very latest, Spurs will still hand him a significant fine for breach of contract over the no-show.
Tottenham are said to be very disappointed with Kane’s approach to the transfer saga and are more determined than ever to resist any offers for him.
Kane’s late return to training means he will play no part in pre-season friendlies against Chelsea on Wednesday and Arsenal on Sunday, while his participation against Manchester City on the opening day of the season also looks very unlikely.
