The 67,500-strong Wembley crowd erupted with cheers and chants when the final whistle blew. Supporters wearing England flags and red and white face paint shed tears as the reality of the final score sunk in. England would be in their first major final for 55 years. Up to 1,000 danced and threw pints in the air in London’s Trafalgar Square after England’s victory over Denmark. Similar scenes were witnessed in Leicester Square, Wembley’s Boxpark, Manchester and Plymouth.

Outside Wembley, thousands fired red flares and sang England’s Three Lions anthem.

Firefighter Josh Moss and a friend shared a snap from Wembley, saying: “This is without a doubt the most excited I have ever been in my life.” The All Albions fan club said the stadium “might be the happiest place on Earth”.

An English fan and his Danish wife turned heads with ominous sign: “This could end in divorce.”

Harry Kane’s wife Katie joined goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s wife Megan to cheer from the stands.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson threw his fists in the air en route and David Baddiel and Frank Skinner, who released the Three Lions’ anthem in 1996, posed with fans.

Days after retiring from Wimbledon with breathing problems, Britian’s young tennis sensation Emma Raducanu, 18, headed for the stadium.

TV presenter James Corden celebrated reuniting with his family for the game. In an online post from the stadium, he said: “It’s been almost a year-and-a-half since I’ve been in the same room as my mum, dad and my sisters. I can’t begin to tell you how emotional it’s all making me!”

Only Fools And Horses actor Sir David Jason, 81, recorded a Del Boy good luck clip and BBC Radio 2 DJ Zoe Ball posted a snap in an “It’s coming home” T-shirt, before dancing to the anthem.

The Lightning Seeds whipped Trafalgar Square into a frenzy as they performed England’s tune beneath Nelson’s Column just before kick-off, roared on by about 1,000 supporters who had won tickets in a ballot.
