Hall of Fame’s 23-man shortlist as fans decide next six after Shearer and Henry

The Premier League have released their 23-man shortlist to decide the next six Hall of Fame places.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and Newcastle icon Alan Shearer, the all-time top scorer for the division, have already been included as the first two occupants.

But six more places will be filled by players in a public vote, set to close on May 9 at 6pm, with the players required to have retired from playing by August 1 2020.

And Henry has the opportunity to be joined by five of his former Gunners team-mates in Tony Adams, Sol Campbell, Ashley Cole, Patrick Vieira and Ian Wright. .

Robin van Persie is also on the list 0 but may be favoured as a player for rivals Manchester United, having won them the title in 2013.

And the Red Devils have the most players on the list with eight including David Beckham, Eric Cantona, Rio Ferdinand, Michael Owen, Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes and Nemanja Vidic.

The former north London full-back switched allegiances to Chelsea during his career.

And Cole is up against fellow ex-Blues Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and John Terry.

The list includes: Tony Adams, David Beckham, Sol Campbell, Eric Cantona, Andy Cole, Ashley Cole, Didier Drogba, Les Ferdinand, Rio Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Matt Le Tissier, Michael Owen, Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes, John Terry, Robin van Persie, Nemanja Vidic, Patrick Vieira and Ian Wright.
