Haaland accused of lacking class after brutally ‘rejecting’ shirt swap request

Borussia Dortmund's sensation Erling Haaland has been accused of lacking class after snubbing a shirt swap against Gibraltar.

Norway put five past the European minnows as they continued their qualification for the 2022 World Cup, and Haaland himself bagged a hat-trick.

However, it had been a different story when the two sides met in March with Haaland failing to make his mark on the scoresheet.

And after the first clash, non-league footballer Roy Chipolina had asked to swap shirts with Haaland.

However, when speaking to The Sun, his teammate, Reece Styche revealed that Haaland had laughed at the request and then walked away.

Styche, like Haaland, who was born in Leeds, was born outside of the country he represents.

And the Gibraltar international was born in Sutton Coldfield, and he's experienced a journeyman career through the English pyramid – most recently at Hednesford Town.

"None of us wanted Haaland's shirt, so we snubbed him. Last March, our skipper Roy Chipolina asked for Haaland's shirt when we met in Gibraltar," Styche told The Sun.

"Norway won 3-0 but Haaland never scored, was substituted after an hour and was in a bit of a mood.

"After they'd both done TV interviews, Roy said to him: 'My little boy's a massive fan of yours, do you mind swapping jerseys?'

"Haaland just looked at him, laughed and walked off! He can buy a lot of things – but he can't buy class – perhaps the media hype has gone to his head.

"He had the chance to make a little kid's day, month, year, whatever and he said no.

"So no-one wanted his shirt in Oslo. Maybe he kept it to mark his hat-trick or gave it to a Norwegian fan because it was their first home match with supporters after Covid."

Styche was on the scoresheet too, and his strike in the first half went down as consolation for the side.

Gibraltar are one of the many smaller nations in Europe that have benefitted from the Nations League.

The competition, still in its formative years, has allowed the peninsula nation to square off in competitive fixtures on a regular basis.
