Italy international Jorginho was the Blues’ No.1 pick for spot kicks before he swapped Stamford Bridge for the Emirates in a £12m deal.

That left a void at the west London club but Potter has now revealed that Kai Havertz will take over penalty duties.

Chelsea face Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday night and may require a shootout to squeeze past them.

Potter’s side trail 1-0 from the first leg and speaking to the media on Monday, the English boss said: ‘The players are always practising penalties.

‘We are prepared for the eventuality and possibility [of a penalty shootout].

‘We want to win it before that but if not then we will be prepared to go through in that way.

‘Kai [Havertz] is our penalty taker in the absence of Jorginho.’

Germany international forward Havertz has scored just six goals across 32 games for Chelsea this season.

‘I think we have to attack better as a team and that’s my responsibility,’ Potter added.

‘It’s too easy to zoom into individuals and blame them. It’s a collective, we have to create more, do better and that starts with me, helping the team get better chances more chances because then I don’t doubt the quality of the players.’

Chelsea boss Potter arrived in September but has been under massive pressure in recent weeks amid the Blues’ horrific run of results, although they did get back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Leeds at home on Saturday.

His team are currently 10th in the Premier League table, 11 points off the top four and have won two of their last 12 games across all competitions.
