Gorgeous Dortmund WAG can’t raise a smile after Bayern snatch title on last day

The wife of Borussia Dortmund defender Mat Hummels cut a dejected figure on her Instagram post.

Dortmund were pipped to the Bundesliga title on the final day after Edin Terzic’s side failed to beat Mainz at home. Across the Rhine, Bayern Munich scored a last-minute winner through former Chelsea and England youth international Jamal Musiala to retain their crown for an 11th season in a row.

The pain of missing out on the title was felt throughout the Dortmund players and fans, including Cathy Hummels who was unable to raise a smile in a picture she posted to Instagram after Dortmund had fallen short.

Hummels began his career in Bayern Munich’s youth side but he failed to break into the first-team and joined Dortmund on an original loan spell that was made permanent at the end of the season, making 225 Bundesliga appearances across eight years – lifting the league title twice.

The 76-time German international returned to the Allianz Arena in 2016 and spent three years back at Bayern before returning back to the Signal Iduna Park in 2019 after lifting three titles in Bavaria.

Hummels will return for another title push at Dortmund again next season after he signed a new contract with BVB.

Cathy took to Instagram in an improved mood to rally her husband and the city of Dortmund ahead of next season, she said: “Good thing Mats extended another year.

“Yesterday was a roller coaster of emotions. I have to admit I haven’t cheered at a football game like this in a long time. In the end it wasn't enough and FC Bayern won the title.

“Congratulations on that note. I would have wanted it very much for the BVB, the city and especially the children. Thank you Dortmund for the beautiful "come back" and see you very very soon.”
