Glover Teixeira was seconds away from defending UFC title before he tapped out
Glover Teixeira was an agonising 28 seconds away from defending his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship – before he submitted to Jiri Prochazka.
All three judges had Teixeira winning on points for the first four rounds before he was forced to submit. However, the Czech superstar grabbed the bout by the neck and forced Teixeira to submit with less than 30 seconds on the clock in the fifth.
After the bout, Prochazka said: “It's amazing and I'm glad. It was a true war. Glover is a true warrior.” While Teixeira, who could feel aggrieved at the loss, instantly called for a rematch.
One fan tweeted: "Prochazka/Teixeira was one of the best fights I’ve seen in a while. What a battle."
"What a legendary win by Prochazka. Walked through hell and snatched victory from probably defeat with less than a minute left. Unbelievable," another added. While a third said: "Prochazka did it!! Rear-naked choke at the buzzer!!! Oh my lord what a fight!"
A fourth tweeted: "Teixeira taps with only 28 seconds left in the fight. Prochazka escapes the jaws of defeat; what a display of heart. Incredible title fight!"
