Glazers gobsmacked at Man Utd crisis after significant summer transfers

Manchester United chiefs are in 'shock' over the current situation at the club with boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having been given three games to save his job.

The Norwegian gaffer is on thin ice at Old Trafford after the 5-0 hammering by Liverpool which has seen the Red Devils slip to seventh in the Premier League table.

Daily Star Sport revealed on Tuesday that PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino is keenly admired by the United hierarchy but the board are willing to afford Solskjaer time after spending heavily in the summer transfer window.

There is a deep desire for the 48-year-old to turn things around due to his success in transforming the club after the departure of Jose Mourinho.

But a report from 90min.com states the Glazers are 'shocked' at how matters have unfolded in recent weeks.

Solskjaer was expected to build upon his second-placed finished last season due to the world-class talent that’s been brought into the club over the summer.

The United board have made it clear they are targeting a first league crown since 2013.

The report states the signings of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo were meant to catapult the Red Devils into the conversation for the Premier League title due to the significant outlay of their cost.

Ronaldo especially was meant to be the crowning jewel after penning a two-year deal from Juventus.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner returned to the Theatre of Dreams to rapturous applause and netted a brace in his homecoming match versus Newcastle.

Goals have not been a problem for the Portuguese legend, but Ronaldo and United do have concerns at the back.

The Red Devils have failed to keep a clean sheet in their past 10 matches.

Varane, Sancho and Ronaldo cost Man Utd just shy of £140m and that outlay is on top of Solskjaer's new contract.

The Norwegian pocketed £20m after signing a three-year extension.

Solskjaer now has three games to save his job after holding clear-the-air talks with his players and staff in the hope that the tide will turn ahead of their next match against Tottenham.
