Georginio Wijnaldum preferred destination has come to light with Arsenal and Tottenham looking to snap up the Paris Saint-Germain star. A return to the Premier League this transfer window is on the cards.
PSG star Wijnaldum would prefer to play for Arsenal over Tottenham should he leave before the end of the transfer window.
The midfielder looks set to depart the Parc des Princes this January after a miserable season.
The Dutchman signed from Liverpool last summer after his contract expired, meaning he could leave on a free transfer.
But it has not been the ideal campaign for the 31-year-old, who does not appear to fit into Mauricio Pochettino’s system.
He has made 25 appearances this year, though that is largely down to the fact that PSG have not had any other fit midfielders while he has been utilised in a number of positions.
With his future uncertain, a return to the Premier League appeals while Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in his services.
However, the Netherlands international has already made up his mind and wants a move to the Emirates over their north London rivals, according to Sky Sports.
Chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol said: “The situation is Gini Wijnaldum is out injured at the moment. He’s not going to come out in public and say, ‘I want to leave PSG’, because you wouldn’t want to spoil your relationship with the fans.
“But what we’re being told is he would like to return to the Premier League. I’m not saying he wants to return today, this week or even in the summer, but he would like to return and we keep being told he would like to play for Arsenal.
“They’re a club he admired a lot when he was growing up. It’s definitely something that appeals to him.”
PSG appear to have already lined up a replacement in the shape of Tottenham star Tanguy Ndombele, who was signed by Pochettino before his dismissal at Spurs.
A loan until the end of the season is being lined up, which will also include an option to buy.
However, Ndombele’s departure could pave Wijnaldum’s arrival at Arsenal which would be a double blow to the white half of north London.
The ex-Reds star would also likely leave on loan as he does not want to entirely give up on his PSG career already.
