Gianluigi Donnarumma has been voted Ligue 1 goalkeeper of the season despite enduring a difficult first year in France.

The 23 year-old arrived at PSG on a free transfer from AC Milan last summer, fresh off the back of winning the European Championships with Italy.

However, he has not had things all his own way in the French capital, featuring in just 17 league games for PSG, while his team-mate Keylor Navas has played 20 times for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

However, he was still voted goalkeeper of the year in Ligue 1 on Sunday evening

Donnarumma has only managed to keep five clean sheets in Ligue 1, and he also made a high-profile error as PSG were eliminated at the last-16 stage of the Champions League against Real Madrid in March.

He still got the nod as the leading goalkeeper in France’s top-flight, though, on Sunday evening.

Donnarumma has admitted that his debut campaign at PSG has not been straightforward, but he does not expect to be rotated with Navas next term, which could improve his consistency.

Meanwhile, William Saliba picked up the young player of the year award after a standout season at Marseille.

Saliba could be an option for Mikel Arteta next season as he is due to return from his loan spell

The Arsenal loanee, who only turned 21 in March, has played in all but one of Marseille’s league games, helping the team keep 12 clean sheets.

His performances have enabled the French club to move into contention for a Champions League place. They are currently level on points with second-placed Monaco heading into the final week of the season.

Saliba will not play again this season as he is suspended for Marseille’s last match.

He is due to return to the Emirates Stadium this summer, and could provide competition for the likes of Ben White and Gabriel at the heart of Arsenal’s defence.
