Gary Neville tried to lure Steven Gerrard to Man Utd while on England duty
Gary Neville would try to lure Steven Gerrard to Manchester United when the pair were away on England duty together.
Jamie Carragher has revealed that Neville would often attempt to recruit Gerrard for the Red Devils during international breaks and would even go to his room to discuss a transfer. Luckily for Liverpool fans, Neville was unsuccessful in his bid to bring his England team-mate to Old Trafford, in a move which would likely have tarnished the Aston Villa manager's reputation at Anfield.
Carragher made the revelation whilst speaking with Roy Keane for SPORTBible, with Keane also poking fun at Neville's England days.
According to Carragher, “Man United tried to sign Stevie. Gary went to Stevie’s room at England.” This led him to ask Keane “how would that have worked at Manchester United?”
Keane responded by joking: “Well obviously he would have been in the ressies for a while. No but every time Gary would go away with the England squad he’d come back and say we need to sign Gerrard or Rooney. Look we’ll be signing all of them you know what I mean, just because they ran past Gary in training.”

Neville has previously opened up about trying to lure Gerrard to United during their playing days and said that the Liverpool legend was 'not that loyal' during their discussions about a potential transfer. The pair played together 32 times for the Three Lions, with Gerrard earning a total of 114 caps for his country during his distinguished playing career.
He was also strongly linked with a move to Chelsea during his time at Liverpool, but ultimately remained with the club until 2015, when he moved to the MLS to join the LA Galaxy.
Gerrard made over 700 appearances for Liverpool after joining the club as a boy and won the Champions League, two FA Cups, three League Cups and the UEFA Cup with the Reds.
