Manchester United icon Gary Neville slammed his former side’s tactics on Sunday afternoon when they were turned over by bitter rivals Liverpool. The 5-0 thrashing at Old Trafford has prompted questions about where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer goes from here, and Neville has some ideas of his own about how the Red Devils can improve.
A poorly coordinated press was exploited by Liverpool for Naby Keita’s opener as the midfielder coolly slotted home to finish off a fast counter-attack.
Liverpool continued to slice open the United defence at will, racing into a 4-0 lead by half-time amid a chorus of boos and a flood of supporters leaving the ground.
The completion of Salah’s hat-trick and a Paul Pogba red card followed after the break, rounding off a 5-0 rout.
Jurgen Klopp cited the importance of avoiding further injuries after the game, evidenced by his side taking their foot off the gas until the final whistle.

Neville was hugely critical of United after the match and claimed that Solskjaer should have picked Jesse Lingard if he wanted to try and press Liverpool.
“The manager and his coaching staff have to take the blame for the pressing game today,” he told Sky Sports.
“They [Man Utd] are not a pressing team. They haven’t got it in them.
“If you are going to press, put in [Jesse] Lingard and the others who can run all day.
“Man Utd can’t press high with the players they have got, you can put Ronaldo, Pogba, Greenwood, Rashford in that.
“Man Utd are miles off being a pressing team.”
Despite being singled out by Neville as someone who should play more, Lingard has found opportunities at United hard to come by this season.
Lingard failed to get on the pitch on Sunday but was involved in an ugly touchline spat with fans when they directed criticism at him as he warmed up.

Lingard was caught on camera appearing to retaliate at fans and could be seen saying “I’m not on the pitch” in a clip posted online by Football For All.
The United midfielder has since hit out at claims he suffered ‘abuse’ from fans as he attempted to play down the incident.
Breaking his silence, Lingard wrote: “It wasn’t abuse! He said ‘work harder’ like I’m not already doing that day in day out.
“And I said ‘I’m not even on the pitch’, end of!”
Lingard will hope to get his opportunity over the course of the next few weeks with United being urged to make huge changes in a bid to save their season. Solskjaer’s men face a crucial period coming up with matches against Tottenham, Atalanta and rivals Manchester City next.
