Gary Neville fires shot at Man City fans with taunt over their 115 charges

Gary Neville didn't let Manchester City fans off easily after they suggested Sir Alex Ferguson controlled referees during his career at Manchester United.

The former England international took to X on Sunday (November 5) afternoon to make his thoughts known on Arsenal's statement condemning the 'unacceptable refereeing' that took place in their 1-0 loss to Newcastle. Mikel Arteta's post-match rant had the Spaniard calling the decision to allow Anthony Gordon's second half goal "embarrassing".

"It’s an absolute disgrace that this goal is allowed to stand," the 41-year-old said. "It’s more than one reason. It is a disgrace. It is not a goal, simple. I feel sick to be part of this." Neville, 48, wasn't a fan of the Premier League club calling out the officials as he stated in a lengthy post on the social media platform.

"I played for a club where a manager went mad after games if we felt a decision had gone against us. You feel like it’s us against the world," he began. "However I can never remember the club writing letters undermining the system and the whole refereeing community.

"When I look back now I don’t think as players we always covered ourselves in glory with refs and also at a big club we all feel entitled and you have to leave and retire to be able to see that. Arsenal’s letter and even the Liverpool statement a few weeks ago ( they had a genuine bad one v them ) are wrong."

Neville's response wasn't taken kindly by one Manchester City fan who hit back at the Man United legend. "You never ‘undermined the system and refereeing community’ because your manager had the referees in his back pocket your entire career," the fan wrote. Neville didn't waste time in hitting the City fan where it hurts by replying: "Don’t you lot start we never had 115 charges against us".

Referring to the charges for alleged rule breaches that could result in expulsion from the Premier League as well as trophy rescindments was a win for Neville fans on social media. One commented: "Own them frauds", while a second fan said: "Hahahah G.Nev is cooking today!!!!"
