Gary Lineker was among the thousands of Leicester City fans left disappointed after Liverpool completed a remarkable comeback to book their place in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. Leicester went in at half-time 3-1 up, but Liverpool turned it around in the second half to force a penalty shoot-out, which they won in dramatic fashion.
Jamie Vardy fired Leicester into a 2-0 lead at Anfield inside 13 minutes as the away side flew out of the blocks.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain hit back with a well-taken finish from Roberto Firmino’s lay-off, but the Foxes soon regained their two-lead buffer.
James Maddison unleashed a powerful drive from long range to beat Caoimhín Kelleher and put Leicester in control going into the break.
Jurgen Klopp reacted by making a triple substitution and the in-form Diogo Jota made it 3-2 with an accurate finish past Kasper Schmeichel soon after.

Leicester appeared to be holding on when Takumi Minamino gathered James Milner’s pass to find the bottom corner in the 95th minute to send the match to penalties.
Kelleher then made two saves from Luke Thomas and Ryan Bertrand to allow Jota the chance to send the hosts through to the semi-finals, which he calmly took.
It was a rollercoaster match and, having enjoyed the goals from Vardy and Maddison, Leicester fan Lineker was left crestfallen at its conclusion.

Liverpool will now face Arsenal in the semi-finals over two legs, the first of which will be played in the week commencing January 3.
The home fans’ feeling at the end of the match was in stark contrast to the start, which Liverpool reeling from Vardy’s impact.
Klopp opted to make 10 changes to his side which drew 2-2 with Tottenham on Sunday, with 19-year-old midfielder Tyler Morton the only player to keep his place.
It did not work, with Vardy and Maddison dominating the Reds’ makeshift backline, which featured Joe Gomez, Billy Koumetio and Conor Bradley.
But the match was completely turned around by Klopp’s half-time changes, which saw Jota, Milner and Ibrahima Konate introduced.
Jota scored the goal to make it 3-2, while Milner picked out Minamino for the late equaliser, with both players also netting their penalties in the shoot-out.
Liverpool will play Leeds United in the Premier League next up on Boxing Day, while Leicester will try to pick themselves up away to league leaders Manchester City.
