Manchester United teenager Alejandro Garnacho admitted it felt like he was ‘dreaming’ after he started alongside his idol Cristiano Ronaldo for the first time in the side’s 3-0 Europa League win against Sheriff on Thursday.

Garnacho has regularly made United’s matchday squad this term, but was finally handed the chance to impress from the start at Old Trafford and he made the most of his opportunity.

United ran out comfortable winners, with Diogo Dalot and Marcus Rashford getting on the scoresheet before Ronaldo netted the final goal of the game late on. Taking to social media afterwards, Garnacho was clearly still on cloud nine after playing with Ronaldo in United’s front line.

The pair both shared a laugh between each other as they walked off the pitch at half time

‘I don’t know if it’s real or if I’m dreaming,’ Garnacho wrote alongside a picture of Ronaldo putting his arm around him on the pitch.

Garnacho looked bright from the start and received a huge ovation from the home crowd when he was replaced by Donny Van De Beek 11 minutes from time.

It was also a big evening for Ronaldo on his return to the team after he was left out for the Red Devils’ trip to Chelsea last Saturday for refusing to come on against Tottenham three days earlier.

The 37-year-old opted to leave the bench early and storm down the tunnel against Spurs, leading to him being disciplined by Erik Ten Hag.

However, the pair held clear-the-air talks earlier this week, and Ronaldo was welcomed back into the first-team squad, with Ten Hag then throwing him straight into the starting line-up on Thursday night.

It looked like it would end up being a frustrating evening for Ronaldo as he missed a couple of chances, but he finally got the goal he craved in the 81st minute, reacting quickest to his initial header being saved before tapping home from close range.

His goal came just hours after he had posted on Instagram that he remained as ‘committed as always’ to United despite speculation regarding his future at the club.

This message suggested he could be sticking around at United, which could give Garnacho the chance to play alongside him more often in the coming weeks.

The 18-year-old did not look overawed by the occasion on his maiden start, and with Jadon Sancho struggling for form on the left flank, Garnacho could force his way into the starting line-up on a regular basis soon.
