Gareth Southgate and England close to confirming bumper new contract until 2024
Gareth Southgate is reportedly close to announcing a two-year extension to his contract as England manager which will see him stay in charge until after Euro 2024.
His current deal with the Football Association runs out after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, so negotiations have been ongoing in recent weeks.
The FA are very keen to keep ahold of Southgate, who has been said to be open to making a return to club management in the Premier League.
A new and improved contract, which will see the 51-year-old earn a salary of around £5million plus bonuses, is set to be signed.
That's according to The Telegraph, who revealed an agreement is near to being reached between the two parties.
Southgate's increased wages will make him the second-highest-paid England manager in history, with Fabio Capello earning nearly £6m per year in his 2010 deal.
A new contract is also expected for his assistant Steve Holland.
Southgate wants to secure England's World Cup qualification first before putting pen to paper.

Since taking over permanently in November 2016, Southgate has brought about a massive change in fortunes for his nation.

Another step forward was made this summer as he guided the side to the Euro 2020 final, which ultimately ended in heartbreak.
During this new deal he will be expected to deliver the elusive piece of silverware.
Tonight's match against Albania will see Southgate move to joint-fourth in the list of most England games managed, with Sven Goran Eriksson also on 67.
