Gareth Bale stripped of Real Madrid shirt number and misses penalty in friendly

Gareth Bale no longer has his Real Madrid No. 11 shirt with the Wales star not having a good day.

Having found life tricky on loan at Tottenham last year, Bale returned to the Spanish capital in the summer.

Rumours continue to circle over where his future lay, but he was named in the starting line-up to face AC Milan in a pre-season friendly.

Though he wasn't given his old No. 11 with Marco Asensio now occupying that digit with Bale instead handed the unusual No. 50.

And if Bale was disappointed over the number on the back of his shirt, he couldn't bring himself any joy on the pitch either.

Having been fouled in the box to earn a penalty, Bale stepped up to take the shot from 12 yards.

But his 40th minute effort was saved, with Bale then replaced at half-time by Vinicius Jr.

Bale had said his future was decided before the Euros, though has remained at the Bernabeu for the time being.

“It will happen after the Euros,” Bale told Sky Sports following the final game of last season.

“I know what I'm doing but it will just cause chaos if I say anything."

Though boss Carlo Ancelotti, who replaced Real Madrid this season, holds high hopes for Bale at the La Liga giants.

“I have a lot of love still for Gareth, Isco, Marcelo… they will have motivation to show they can still play for Real Madrid,” Ancelotti said at a press conference.

"Gareth has not played much in the Premier League, but he scored lots of goals, was very effective in recent games when he had chance to play.

"He is coming back, I know him very well, he will be motivated to play better and have a great season, no doubt."
