Gareth Bale has a year left on his current Real Madrid contract and is believed to be considering retirement from club football at the end of the 2021-2022 season. But while the forward could move away from the Bernabeu in search of more regular football, he’s expected to remain in Madrid for the final year of his contract.
Bale had a mixed year on loan at Tottenham last season, struggling to break into the first team for half of the campaign.
After he forced his way into Jose Mourinho and Ryan Mason’s plans, he started getting back to his sensational best.
But, the Wales international never fully cemented his place among the Spurs best XI, and is set to return to Real Madrid for the upcoming season.
He still has one remaining year on his contract, and he’s expected to see out the deal in Madrid.
Bale is also reportedly planning to retire from club football next summer.
He’s told friends and advisors that he’s not planning on signing for another club after he becomes a free agent, according to the Mirror.
However, the forward is also believed to be open to playing for Wales if they qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Bale might have been tempted to stay at Real Madrid owing to his huge wages, which would see him set for life after leaving the club.

Gareth Bale’s Real Madrid contract – in full
Bale signed a five-year contract with Real Madrid in 2016, which would see him remain at the club until June 30 2022.
The contract was reportedly worth more than £600,000-a-week, and was one of the biggest deals in the history of sport at the time.
After tax, the wages worked out at around £350,000-a-week – more than Cristiano Ronaldo was earning at the same time.
After the full six years, the contract would see Bale earn about £150m in salaries and bonuses.
But shortly after he signed the contract extension at Real Madrid, he fell out of favour at the club.
Manager Zinedine Zidane opted to drop Bale down to the reserves, leaving his future at the Bernabeu in doubt.
Los Blancos tried to offload the Wales forward to get him off their wage bill.
However, owing to the nature of his giant contract, no other club was willing to match Real Madrid’s wages, and Bale remained in the Spanish capital.
In 2019, Bale was expected to sign for Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning on a three-year contract.
He was offered more than £1m a week, but the deal was blocked by the Real Madrid board at the final hurdle.
Real president, Florentino Perez, decided he wanted a larger transfer fee for Bale.
The 32-year-old remained at the Bernabeu throughout the following season, before heading back to Tottenham on loan for the 2020-2021 season.
