National League North side AFC Fylde have announced that they have accepted the resignation of manager James Rowe after he was charged with sexual assault, ahead of his appearance before a magistrates court.
The full statement reads: "Following a meeting this afternoon, the board have accepted James Rowe’s resignation as manager of the club. Andy Taylor will take temporary charge until a new manager is appointed.
"There will be no further comment from anyone at this time."
The 39-year-old former West Ham academy coach is alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman in Chesterfield in November last year. He was in charge of Chesterfield FC at the time but left the National League club in February.
Rowe will appear before a magistrates court in Chesterfield on November 7, according to a police statement released by Derbyshire Police on Wednesday (September 28).
It read: "A man has been charged with sexual assault. Officers received a report in January 2022 about an offence in Chesterfield which was alleged to have taken place in November 2021.
Rowe won 15 of his 26 matches in charge of the club, having won 38 of 64 with Chesterfield and 10 of his 22 fixtures at Gloucester City.
Having signed a three-year deal with the club back in March, the club's former defender Taylor has taken charge on a temporary basis.
Taylor played for the club at the end of his career between 2019 and 2020, having previously lined up for Sheffield United, Blackpool and Oldham among others.
