Frustrated Jose Mourinho slams Gareth Bale Instagram post as "totally wrong"
Jose Mourinho has explained his frustration at Gareth Bale's Instagram post after the Welsh star was left out of Tottenham's FA Cup squad to face Everton on Wednesday.
The Spurs manager was furious after Bale shared a picture of himself training on Tuesday along with the caption "Good session today".
This came after Bale had been dropped from the team to face the Toffees because he had complained of a muscular problem – leading his post to make it look as though Mourinho had left him out for tactical reasons.
Speaking ahead of his side's game against Manchester City on Saturday, Mourinho felt the need to explain why he was so angry.
"I have to admit that his post created a need of being addressed," Mourinho said.
"There was a contradiction between the post and the reality. Since the beginning of the season, in relation to everything, I've tried to be very private and keep everything indoors but I felt that I needed to address the situation.
"Probably the post was not even his responsibility, but it was showing that the training session was great and I'm ready which was totally wrong. So when questioned I had to give the reality of things."
It is not yet clear whether Bale will return to the team for the game against City, but Mourinho insists if he is feeling fully fit he will be in contention for a place in the side.
He added: "I repeat for the last time. He was not feeling good. He asked for a scan. He had a scan.
"The scan did not show an injury but his feelings were still there but as coaches, medical people we can never go against the player feelings. So he was not ready for the game. It's as simple as that.
"If he's ready for tomorrow he's selected for tomorrow."
