Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel looks set to lose one of his most exciting prospects in the summer transfer window. It comes after a deal that Frank Lampard agreed to prior to his dismissal in January.

Chelsea star Fikayo Tomori looks set to move to AC Milan on a permanent basis after manager Stefano Piolo’s latest comments.

It is a big blow to Tuchel, who is keen on bringing in a defender in the transfer window but already has a perfect star on the books.

It was one of the last decisions made by Lampard before he was sacked in January after Tomori fell out of favour under the Englishman.

AC Milan were happy to take onboard the 23-year-old, with themselves also in need of reinforcements to their backline.

And he has been absolutely sensational since swapping life in the Premier League for Serie A.

In a short space of tine, the England international has become a key player under Pioli.

As part of the negotiations, a buyout clause was included that meant AC Milan could sign Tomori permanently for a fee of £28m.

And Pioli has confirmed that they will trigger this option and look to land the centre-back for good.

He said: “We are so happy with Tomori, our plan with him is so clear.

“We want to confirm Fikayo and our plan is to keep him next season. Let’s see what happens with Chelsea”.

It will be a big blow to Tuchel, as well as Chelsea fans who he had grown a close affinity with.

Following a breakthrough season last year, many were left puzzled by his absence from the squad under Lampard.

He managed just 45 minutes in the Premier League after coming on against Liverpool in a 2-0 loss back in September, never to taste action in the top-tier again.

But his talent is undoubted and was the player of the year for Derby when Lampard was in charge, making his decision to ostracise the youngster even stranger.

It means Tuchel will have to dip into the transfer window to sign a defender that he likes, with a top target yet to appear – though there have been links with Bayern Munich star Niklas Sale.
