Frank Lampard soon got his revenge on Jose Mourinho after he was brutally stripped of any sort of farewell at Chelsea, despite serving the club for 13 years.

Lampard who has gone down as one of Chelsea's legend at Stamford Bridge, making over 425 Premier League appearances for Blues, saw his career at West London took a sour turn after Mourinho decided to let him go.

That same year, fellow legends John Terry and Didier Drogba were given a proper farewell, but the then 35-year-old, who believed he would be kept on at the club, opted against a big parade in Chelsea's final game of 2014 – only to be told the club would not be renewing his contract. And if there is one thing the former England international regrets during his career, is exactly that.

"There are not a lot of things I regret in my Chelsea career but not being able to say my goodbyes properly to all of the Chelsea fans is certainly one," he said at the time. "Thirteen years is a long time."

But revenge was later served, as is always best, cold. Lampard secured a move to the Etihad that same year and during his one-season with Manchester City, he came off the bench to equalise against his former club – as Mourinho watched on, of course. He then went on to become City's fourth highest goal scorer at season and proved the Portuguese should have stuck with him.

Mourinho later described him as one of the "best player" he's ever coached. "At Chelsea, in my first period, I had Frank Lampard, probably the best player in the Premier League for one decade,' Mourinho said back in 2016.

Since then, the pair have had altercations on the touchline. It all started with Lampard's first game as Chelsea boss in which Manchester United thrashed the Blues 4-0.

Mourinho was critical of Mason Mount's performance at the time and that didn't sit well with Lampard. "He didn’t like the performance of Mason Mount? Is that what he said? Did he? Wow," he responded at the time.
