Trust in Trent

The defender's confidence would have taken a serious hit in recent weeks after being persistently criticised for his defensive lapses. His goal involvements had also drastically decreased this season, uncharacteristically having yet to register a single assist.

But Klopp's faith in Alexander-Arnold paid off as he once again demonstrated his class with a free-kick placed exquisitely into the top left-hand corner. Trent would have been even more relieved at his defensive contributions, working hard with the Liverpool backline to keep a much-needed clean sheet.

Tried and tested midfielder

Another Liverpool player to have recently come under scrutiny is captain Jordan Henderson. The veteran has not enjoyed the greatest of starts to the season and has therefore been blamed by some sections of supporters for the Reds' difficult start.

But Klopp still opted to play the Englishman ahead of Fabinho in a midfield pivot alongside Thiago Alcantara. He provided a calm presence in the centre of the pitch, dictating tempo and executing penetrative passes.

Thrilling four

Klopp boldly opted to play a front four of Salah, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz against Rangers. His seemingly all-out attacking line-up allowed his side to take the initiative and consistently put the away side on the back foot.

They generated a number of chances, with Nunez alone having three golden opportunities to score in the first-half alone.

Substitutions

The Reds manager avoided the temptation to unsettle his side by making too many substitutions at pivotal stages of the match.

He waited until his side was two goals up and in relative safety before introducing experienced heads in Roberto Firmino and Fabinho. Klopp most notably did not start any of his youngsters and only brought on Harvey Elliott when Liverpool had the game under control.
