Four men arrested after police are pelted with furniture before Rangers vs Spurs

Four men have been arrested after police were hit with street furniture outside Ibrox during Rangers' pre-season clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

One officer required medical attention following the incident that occurred close to the Glasgow stadium on Paisley Road West. Four football fans have since been arrested following the incident, with one 24-year-old being charged with alleged mobbing, rioting offences and police assault.

The other three men, aged 25, 27 and 51, have been charged with alleged breach of the peace offences. Chief Superintendent Mark Sutherland said: "Around 1.30 pm on Saturday, 23 July, 2022, police officers were attacked with street furniture on Paisley Road West, near to Seaward Street, as they prevented a disturbance between rival football supporters.

"There have been a significant number of football fans intent on causing disorder and violence across the city this afternoon and police officers have had to act swiftly and robustly to ensure public safety and reduce disorder."

He added: "As we approach the new football season I would make it clear that this behaviour will not be tolerated.

"It impacts other members of the public and the vast majority of football supporters who are in the city to enjoy the game."

Rangers had found themselves a goal-up at Ibrox when Antonio Colak found the back of the net.

However, it took a Harry Kane brace to turn the game on its head in the second half as Spurs claimed a 2-1 win as the new Premier League season continues to get ever closer.
