Forgotten Premier League star shares gruesome scars as he awaits third knee op

Former Premier league forward Gerard Deulofeu has undergone a third invasive knee surgery in a bid to fix his long-term injury woes – having been left with gruesome scaring.

The 28-year-old, who has been in fine form for Udinese with two goals and six assists in Serie A this season, now looks set to miss the rest of the 2022/23 campaign.

Posing for an Instagram snap with girlfriend Maria Casas, the 28-year-old could be seen in a hospital gown before surgery with scars across his left knee-cap.

That upload comes almost two years after he posted a similar photo following an operation on his right knee – which was a year after he hailed surgeons for an earlier procedure.

The former Barcelona prospect said on his 2023 post: "It's a delicate and sensitive moment that you were by my side at all times and took me to the operating room with a smile."

Adding to Maria with a red love heart emoji: "I LOVE YOU."

Deulofeu starred during his youth at Barcelona and scored 18 goals across 33 for their reserve side in 2012/13 to earn a spot in the senior set-up.

After just six appearances he joined Everton on loan, then spent time with Sevilla before a permanent move to Goodison Park which lasted 75 appearances.

The ex-Spain international joined AC Milan on loan before a return to the Nou Camp, since spending three years at Watford before joining Udinese in 2021.

During his career, Deulofeu has missed 86 senior fixtures due to injury, including many spells on the sidelines due to knee issues.

Following one of his most serious injuries during his time at Vicarage Road, he said of his mentally towards spells on the sidelines: "Mentally my character is really positive now.

"I’m a different person than in other years and I’ve changed my mind and I’m always positive. We can’t live in our past, we have to look at our present and work for the future."
