Five top-class stars Man Utd are monitoring for free transfers

Manchester United are keeping an eye on five top players who are going to be free next summer.

The Red Devils are already starting to get plans in place for the 2021/22 season, sitting second in the Premier League and into the Europa League quarter-finals.

Looking to close the gap on rivals Manchester City, it has seen new football director John Murtough supported by Darren Fletcher challenged with the task.

But MEN have reported that they are looking to save money while picking out top players.

The club’s priorities for the summer are a centre-back and a centre-forward, with Edinson Cavani’s expected departure for South America opening up a space.

It has seen them linked with players such as Erling Haaland – but two arrivals of his price would be a plan that makes other moves “unlikely to be able to justify”.

And this will see them look at players available for free the following year, such as Real Madrid star Raphael Varane.

The Frenchman’s contract is up in 2022 but they are looking to offload the defender in order to free up funds.

This has seen the Old Trafford side speak to the 27-year-old’s representatives about a deal.

And another La Liga star in the same situation is Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele, who has struggled with injuries and competition since arriving in 2017.

With the Nou Camp side looking to land Haaland, the 23-year-old could be an easy target for United.

The forward’s World Cup-winning pal, Kylian Mbappe, will also have 12 months left on his deal at PSG this summer.

But their opportunity could be coming soon as the Italian side have suffered sit 10 points behind Serie A leaders Inter after a tough campaign.

And the last player Solskjaer could be eyeing up in Roma forward Lorenzo Pellegrini, who has six goals and seven assists this season.

Into his fourth season with the Italian team, his versatility of playing across the attacking third may appeal enough to buy the 24-year-old out of the last year of his deal.
