FIFA 21 TOTY Promo Release Date confirmed

The FIFA 21 TOTY Ultimate XI will be released on Friday January 22, 2021 , EA SPORTS confirmed on their official website.

On the FUT 21 Team of the Year web page, there is now a statement confirming the TOTY release date, with the statement also confirming that the vote is now closed.

"The votes for the FIFA 21 Team of the Year are being counted. See who made the Ultimate XI on January 22!"

There is also an additional statement on the 'About TOTY' page, confirming that Friday January 22 is the date when these players will be released into the FIFA 21 Ultimate Team.

"The final Team of the Year XI will be announced on January 22, when special TOTY player items featuring some of the highest ratings of the season will be released in FUT 21 to celebrate each player's incredible performances over the course of a year like no other."

This means that this year's FUT TOTY promo bucks the trend of previous FUT seasons, as normally the TOTY campaign begins on a Monday, with different positions being released into packs throughout the week.

But, for FUT 21, it seems that the full FUT 21 TOTY Ultimate XI will be released into packs instantly, and probably the 12th man too.

For example in FUT 20, the TOTY promo began on Monday January 6, 2020. In FUT 19, the TOTY promo began on Monday January 7, 2019. The TOTY has often started earlier too, as you can see from the release dates, but with the real-life season starting late, it makes sense for EA SPORTS to delay the TOTY promo too.

FIFA 21 TOTY Promo – What we know so far

Within any FIFA Ultimate Team season there are always a number of big FUT promos, where highly-rated player items are released into packs, these include FUT promos such as Headliners, Future Stars, Rulebreakers, Freeze, FUTMAS, TOTGS, Winter Refresh, FUT Birthday and many more.

But, the FIFA 21 Team of the Year (TOTY) is the biggest and most popular FUT promo, with the event featuring a selection of players based on their performances over the last calendar year, who are given special blue FUT items with significant upgrades and the best ratings of any FUT promo.

What makes the FUT TOTY promo different to other FUT promos is that the team of eleven players that make up the Team of the Year squad, plus a 12th player, is decided by EA SPORTS FIFA community members by vote, with 70 TOTY Nominees up for selection.

For example, in FIFA 20 Ultimate Team last year, Virgil van Dijk, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's TOTY items were 99-rated, with Kylian Mbappe, Kevin De Bruyne given 98-rated TOTY items, whilst Sadio Mane, N'Golo Kante and Alisson were given 97-rated TOTY items.

The TOTY is normally made up of one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards, where each category can contain a player in any position.

FUT 21 TOTY Campaign Highlights:

  • TOTY is football awards, corrected: the Ultimate XI, influenced by the community and for all.
  • FIFA Ultimate Team's one squad to rule them all, with some of the best items from the entire cycle, available selectively at first and then all at once, for a limited time.
  • Themed puzzle, Squad Building Challenge, and Objective content to support the broader squad driven campaign

The voting for the FUT 21 Team of the Year squad began on Thursday January 7, 2021 at 4PM GMT. The FIFA 21 Ultimate Team TOTY voting is live now at EA.COM/TOTY.
