Ferdinand warns Man Utd transfer targets and advises against Trippier move
Rio Ferdinand has warned Manchester United against signing Kieran Trippier this summer.
It comes as interest in the right-back grows by the day with the Atletico Madrid star high on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's wish list.
The Norweigan wants to improve his squad after another season without any silverware.
And a back-up full-back is one of the priorities, along with Jadon Sancho, a striker and a centre-back.
But Ferdinand does not believe that Tripper is the sort of player that United should go for – despite the Englishman having a stellar season in helping Atletico win La Liga for the first time since 2014.
He told the Metro: "I don’t think they’d buy someone to come in and play [every week], I think whoever’s coming in there is going to be playing backup.
"They spent £50m on Wan-Bissaka, not to be a backup or No.2.
"He [Trippier] wouldn’t be my choice if I’m honest, but I see the qualities he has.
"But Trippier definitely wouldn’t be my choice in terms of the profile of player that I’d be bringing in to play as a No.2 right-back."
It has been touted that Solskjaer is looking for a similar reaction over Luke Shaw's situation.

There had been doubts over the former Southampton star's commitment and Alex Telles was brought in.
But the Brazilian has barely had a look-in after Shaw's performances went through the roof – which saw him being named in the PFA Team of the Year.
Trippier is a top target and is already looking for places to live in Manchester, according to reports.

The England international has just helped Diego Simeone's men win La Liga for the first time since 2014.
And he did so by becoming a pivotal force in the squad, even earning a spot in the Liga Team of the Season.
With the former Tottenham man entering the final two years of his contract, he could be available for a cut-throat price.
