FA’s admission over Euro 2020 final after England’s chances given huge boost
The Football Association is targeting a FULL HOUSE at Wembley for the Euro 2020 final after England’s chances of going all the way were given a major boost.
Wembley will now host a last-16 knockout match which will feature Gareth Southgate’s side IF they win their group.
Twenty-five percent of Wembley’s 90,000 capacity will be occupied by fans for the group-stage games in June.
But FA chief executive Mark Bullingham is hoping at least 45,000 fans will be allowed in for the rescheduled game in the round of 16 and that the stadium could even be packed out for the final on July 11.
Bullingham said: “We would love the final to be full if the authorities were to allow that.
“We are guaranteed 25 percent for the whole tournament but our hope and expectation is we get up to a higher number for the group games and beyond.
“Our hope is we will be AT LEAST 50 percent for the knockout games but, clearly, that is not our decision. It is for the authorities to make.”
Bullingham and the FA have established very good relations with Boris Johnson and are optimistic of Wembley being more than half-full for the knockout stages.
And in the round of 16, England could face Germany at Wembley after the Euro fixtures scheduled for Dublin were switched by UEFA.
Bullingham said: “We are delighted to be able to help UEFA in staging this game. From our perspective, it is absolutely fantastic to get another game at Wembley.
“It’s an incredibly tough route to the final for us but this gives us another opportunity for a game at home for the Three Lions which is obviously brilliant for us.
“It is really positive news.”
