Fans taunt Liverpool ‘going for any midfielder’ as they close in on Wataru Endo
Football fans have claimed Liverpool are just "going after any midfielder" following reports the Reds are close to landing Stuttgart midfielder Wataru Endo.
Heading into the summer transfer window, Liverpool knew their midfield needed a makeover, prompting them to sign Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai from Brighton & Hove Albion and RB Leipzig respectively.
But, they also decided to let two senior players go, with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho both opting to move to Saudi Arabia, leaving the Reds short when it comes to defensive midfield options.
Looking to rectify that, Liverpool entered the race for Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo, with the hopes that at least one of them would be making the move to Anfield this summer.

However, both Lavia and Caicedo have spurred Liverpool's advances in favour of joining Chelsea. Whilst Lavia's move from Southampton is not yet confirmed, Chelsea announced the signing of Caicedo from Brighton this week, meaning Liverpool have had to go back to their recruitment drawing board.
That has led to them pursuing a deal for Stuttgart midfielder Wataru Endo. Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reports Liverpool have submitted a bid for the Japanese international, who is said to be keen on joining Jurgen Klopp's side.
Who else do you think Liverpool should try and sign this summer? Let us know in the comments section below.
Endo, who is by no means a bad player, has a year left on his contract with the German side. The Athletic have also reported the deal for the 30-year-old is reported to be worth £16.2m.
While the surprising move came out of nowhere, Liverpool may be opting to try and box smart for the rest of the transfer window. They put a bid of £111m in for Caicedo, only for him to choose Chelsea – meaning clubs know the Reds have transfer funds available to them, potentially raising the price of any summer target.
And the news of Liverpool's approach for Endo was met by widespread taunting by football fans on social media. One fan wrote: "Liverpool Going For Any Midfielder At This Point."

Another added: "missed out on Enzo so got Endo." A third commented: "Chelsea have the opportunity to do the funniest thing possible." And a fourth joked: "From Caicedo, to Lavia, to this, in the space of five days. Remarkable stuff."
