Supporters have heaped praise on Burnley’s hilarious announcement video for the signing of striker Lyle Foster. 

The Championship leaders confirmed the arrival of South African star Foster from Belgian club Westerlo on Wednesday evening for around £12million, including bonuses.

And the Twitter post revealing the move showed Shrek character Lord Farquaad picking the 22-year-old ahead of global superstars Lionel Messi, of Paris Saint-Germain, and former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo, now at Al-Nassr.

The viral video, which has already been liked more than 210,000 times and retweeted more than 35,000 times, ends with a picture of Foster shaking hands with manager Vincent Kompany and Farquaad saying ‘Foster… he’s perfect.’

And fans quickly took to social media to hail the ‘genius’ announcement.

One said: ‘This is the best announcement I’ve ever seen,’ followed by a cry-laughing emoji.’

A second agreed, simply adding: ‘This is the best transfer announcement of all time.’

A third continued: ‘Absolute GENIUS! Credit to the marketing team,’ while another tweeted: ’10/10 announcement,’ and a fifth said: ‘Unreal creativity.’

One posted: ‘This announcement video, is the most perfect of them all,’ with a saluting emoji. 

The club also announced the January signing of defender Ameen Al-Dakhil with a dubbed Toy Story video. 

Burnley are the second-tier’s top scorers with 55 in 28 games, but have build on a position of strength up front, adding 6ft 2ins forward Foster on a four-and-a-half-year deal.

The nine-cap international had scored eight goals and provided three assists for Jonas De Roeck’s side this season before the switch.

Burnley, who are five points clear of Sheffield United in second and 18 clear of Watford in third, are big favourites to be promoted to the Premier League this year.
