Fans go wild as Bolton star scores fluke 45-yard screamer with slide tackle

In the final game of the League One season, Bolton Wanderers put on a show against Fleetwood in their 4-2 win, but striker Dion Charles was the player who was in the spotlight.

The Bolton striker responded to Barry Baggley's opener, striking the equaliser before half-time. Declan John then doubled the home side's lead, before Joe Garner netted the equaliser with 10 minutes from time.

As the sides were tied at 2-2 and battling for control, with a sequence of 50/50 tackles, one of the challenges came from Charles, whose slide tackle resulted in the ball flying high and fast towards Alex Cairns' goal. It eventually went beyond the 'keeper's head and in the back of the net.

Fans could simply not believe what they were witnessing, with one saying: "When you think you've seen it all!," before another added: "Could watch this on a loop for the rest of the day." A third continued: "Take a bow son," before a fourth replied: "Haha, reopen the goal of the season vote right now."

Jon Daoi Boovarsson then added his name to the scoresheet, with Bolton's fourth deep in injury time. Speaking after his side's win, the Wanderers boss said of Charles' goal: "One was a bit of a fluke but to be fair to Dion he’s not had much luck in front of goal of late and I’m pleased for him."
