Fans expect Liverpool to go 7-2-1 vs Arsenal after Jurgen Klopps s-bomb

Football fans have joked that Liverpool could adopt a 7-2-1 formation against Arsenal after Jurgen Klopp said his side will "defend the s***" out of the game.

The two clubs are set to face off this Sunday, and although the Reds enjoyed a solid 2-0 win over Rangers in the Champions League in midweek, their form has been lacking in Premier League. The Reds are currently sat in ninth place in the table with just ten points from seven games.

Arsenal are enjoying a superb start to the season, with the Gunners currently top of the pule, having won seven and lost one of their opening eight games.

Ahead of the encounter, Klopp was quizzed about his gameplan. The German replied: “All my respect. Really good job from Mikel. When you need time nobody wants to give you it. A lot of talent. Martinelli…. I was excited about him early, Odegaard….. I spoke to him at 15 in Norway with his dad. Saka…… ooof."

Klopp then touched on Liverpool's defensive approach to the game, offering some words of advice that you probably won't find in any coaching manual: "We have to defend the sh** out of everyone we face," he joked.

But the words of the manager caused some concern from fans online, some of whom predicted the Reds could start with a 7-2-1 formation at the Emirates.

One said: “I have invented a strategy where attack is the best form of defence and defence is also the best form of defence. Would like @LFC to have a word with Jurgen — that language isn't really on. Maybe in Germany but not in England.”

A second joked: ”7-2-1 formation against Arsenal.” As a third wrote: “It really is as simple as this tbh. We’ve been so sloppy at letting teams get near our goal.”

Liverpool have been below par so far this term, with the 4-1 defeat to Napoli in the Champions League last month the pick of a bad bunch. Their form has come as something of a surprise after last season's strong finish, which was coupled with contract extensions for Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah in the summer.

Reds fans will be hoping that a positive performance and result to boot against the league leaders will set them on the right path for the remainder of the campaign.
