Fabio Vieira has played down concerns over a foot injury and has insisted he will be back in full training in the next week.

Fans were worried when a picture of the £34million summer signing emerged of him wearing a protective boot on his left-foot.

Vieira, 22, picked up the knock during international duty with Portugal last month, but is now close to returning to training.

The former Porto man has not yet made an appearance for Arsenal during pre-season.

Midfielder Fabio Vieira is sure that he will be back in training with Arsenal ‘in the next few days’

He told The Athletic: ‘It’s a small injury I got with the national team one month ago.

‘Now I feel really good. I’m not training 100 per cent yet, but I’m running. Day after day, I’m improving. And in a few days, I’ll be back in full training with my team-mates.’

The versatile midfielder joined Arsenal in June and already knows where he wants to play in Mikel Arteta’s team.

Vieira impressed in Portugal last season, setting up 16 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions, as well as chipping in with seven goals.

Vieira has not yet appeared for the Gunners in pre-season but expects to feature soon

I’m an offensive player,’ he said. ‘I like to make the last pass, and to help team-mates to score. And I like to score goals too.

‘The manager told me he knows I can play as a midfielder — No 8, No 10 — or on the wing, left side or right side.

‘They know I am a versatile player. I prefer No 10. It’s my real position.’

The 22-year-old has also suggested that he is not worried about adapting to the physicality to the Premier League, despite his slight build of 5ft 7in, as he believes that his intelligence on the pitch will help him a lot.

He said: ‘It’s a big challenge. The Premier League is more intense, more physical. I’m not a physical player, so I have to work hard and build my physique.

‘But for me, it’s my intelligence and my quality that is most important. In Portugal, I never had a problem with the physical side.

‘Before the ball comes to me, I have to watch and think what’s happening next. Intelligence is one of my attributes.

‘It’s the best league in the world. England was always very attractive to me. Great Portuguese players have played here. I want to follow them.’

Arsenal have also signed the likes of Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City in what has been a productive summer for the Gunners so far.
