For thousands of Liverpool fans at Wembley, victory against Chelsea in Sunday’s Carabao Cup Final would be the first time they’ve physically been able to watch Jurgen Klopp’s team lift a trophy.
Midfielder Fabinho admits it’s an added motivation for the Liverpool players having won the Premier League behind closed doors and the Champions League in Madrid which made it difficult for some supporters to travel.
The Reds will have 33,000 fans in London on Sunday afternoon. ‘We won the league in Covid times so we couldn’t celebrate in the right way,’ said Fabinho.
Fabinho says having fans in attendance for the Carabao Cup final will provide extra inspiration
‘To have our fans in the stadium will be special. The red part will be really beautiful. To be in a final is always amazing but for so many of our fans to be there behind us, it’s even better.’
They will be watching in Brazil as well with Fabinho, Alisson and Thiago Silva all important members of the national team though Roberto Firmino is injured. Recently Fabinho has also become a goal threat, scoring five in nine games in 2022.

Jordan Henderson praised Liverpool’s squad and said there are quality players on the bench
‘I am getting in the box more often,’ he explained. ‘Before I was the last man to defend the counter-attack. Now I have more opportunities to score.
‘I always try different movements, first and second balls, and our team is really good at set pieces. When you have team-mates who win the ball in the air, it can always fall to you. I try to be alive and score.’
Skipper Jordan Henderson is the last survivor of the team that beat Cardiff on penalties in the 2012 League Cup Final – the last domestic cup that Liverpool won.
‘We’ve won one or two other things over the past few years but of course you always want more,’ said Henderson.
‘Our squad has been huge over the last few weeks. There are top-quality players who are not even getting on the bench. We are in a really good moment.’
