Erling Haaland "should be an option" for Man Utd despite Cristiano Ronaldo deal

Erling Haaland “should still be an option” for Manchester United, says Gary Neville – despite securing a return for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Red Devils have signed the 36-year-old from Juventus, 12 years after he left for Real Madrid on the way to 30 major titles and five Ballon d’Ors.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who played with CR7 in his first stint, is bringing in a player who has averaged 40 goals a season for the last 16 years.

And it saw him beat one of the rising European talents in Haaland, who is averaging just over a goal a game over the last three seasons for RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund.

The Norwegian is courting a lot of attention this summer, with clubs expected to pounce next year as his £64m release clause becomes active.

With United reportedly in ‘pole position’ for the 21-year-old’s signature, Ronaldo’s former team-mate Neville does not believe the position should be sacrifice due to CR7’s return.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, the Old Trafford hero said: "What they have done here bolstered their squad with a proven goalscorer, a club legend.

Do you think Cristiano Ronaldo will help Manchester United win titles? Let us know in the comments section.

“What it is going to do is give the club an incredible 12 months. You think about last season, fans not being in the stadium.

“But Manchester United fans are going to be absolutely rocking for the next 6 to 12 months because they are going to see one of their own come back and play in their stadium.

“And he will score goals and give them brilliant moments.

"But if you look at the business that Chelsea have done and that City were looking to do Manchester United had to look to compete.

"We know there is a potential that Haaland will be available next summer, that Cavani has probably a year and if Cristiano can give a year or two years to Manchester United.

“They definitely need a centre-forward option along with Edinson Cavani. I know they have Mason Greenwood."
