Everton star Fabian Delph is said to be furious with his club after he was wrongly accused of alleged child sex offences, according to reports.
Earlier this week, the Toffees midfielder faced accusations on social media after it was revealed an Everton player had been arrested and suspended by the club.
One Merseyside player has been bailed by police pending further investigations.
But after Everton released a statement, confirming they had dropped the player involved, many users began speculating Delph was the player in question.
He has not been arrested or suspended – and the Athletic report the player is now 'furious'.
The former Aston Villa man is said to have vented his anger at the club for placing the spotlight on his family.
Delph is now said to be 'keeping a low profile' – and will not be taking part in Everton's pre-season tour in America.
The club insist this is because he has been in contact with someone who has Covid-19, and is therefore isolating.
In a statement, they wrote: "Everton can confirm that Fabian Delph will not travel with the squad to the Florida Cup in Orlando as a precautionary measure after coming into contact with someone who has since tested positive for Covid-19.
“Delph, who began his preparations for the coming season on 5 July and has played in both of the Club’s practice matches – including a 1-0 victory against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday – will resume his pre-season training as soon as his period of self-isolation is over.”
Delph's friend Bradley Johnson took to social media this week, to condemn anyone accusing the player of an illegal activity.
“It’s not fair or right that Fab and his family have to go through this,” Johnson wrote.
The player under investigation has not been named – and Everton have only released a short statement on the matter.
"Everton can confirm it has suspended a player pending a police investigation," the statement read.
"The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time."
