EXCLUSIVE: Brentford's squad will NOT land bonus for European football
EXCLUSIVE: Brentford’s squad will NOT land any bonuses if they secure European football for the first time in the Bees’ 133-year history… with only a top four finish triggering £3m Champions League windfall
- Brentford find themselves one point off a Europa Conference League spot in 8th
- Sportsmail understands only a top four finish would secure players a £3m bonus
- Brentford has never previously played in Europe in its 133-year history
Brentford’s players will not receive any bonuses if they make history by taking the club into Europe for the first time.
Thomas Frank’s side are just one point off the Europa Conference League spot in eighth place following Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Southampton, with the manager saying afterwards that ‘many people would be very proud’ if his players brought European football to the club after in 134 years.
Brentford’s players have no financial stake in European qualification however unless the finish in the top four.
Sportsmail has learned that there are no bonuses for qualifying for the Europa League or the Conference League in the players’ contracts, with only the more remote prospect of reaching the Champions League to be rewarded.
The extraordinary achievement of finishing in the top four would trigger a bonus pot of £3million to be shared amongst the squad, although given Brentford are seven points behind fourth-placed Tottenham such an outcome is unlikely.

In addition to the Champions League bonus most of the players will also be entitled to an additional payment based on the club’s finishing position.
The Champions League prize pot would leave each player entitled to an average pay-out of around £120,000, with the precise figure based on how many Premier League matches they have played this season.
Brentford’s bonus scheme is worth considerably less than many of their Premier League rivals, with Arsenal’s players in line to receive around £500,000 if the club book their place in the Champions League for the first time since 2017, which now seems inevitable.
