Everton’s pre-season plans thrown into more uncertainty with Florida trip

Everton's pre-season plans have been thrown into more uncertainty after the Toffees jetted out to the United States on Wednesday.

Rafa Benitez's side have flown across the pond for the Florida Cup – which may see them play just one game during their time out there.

Arsenal and Inter Milan were both set to take part in the US tournament but have pulled out due to Covid-19 concerns.

A breakout in the Gunners camp caused Mikel Arteta's men to drop out, before Inter followed suit due to the "current risks involved in international travel."

Benitez’s Everton are set to face Colombian side Millonarios on Monday but no other games are scheduled.

Merseyside midfielder Fabian Delph will not be travelling with his team-mates to Orlando after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for Covid-19.

The Toffees said: "Everton can confirm that Fabian Delph will not travel with the squad to the Florida Cup in Orlando as a precautionary measure after coming into contact with someone who has since tested positive for Covid-19.

“Delph, who began his preparations for the coming season on 5 July and has played in both of the Club’s practice matches – including a 1-0 victory against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday – will resume his pre-season training as soon as his period of self-isolation is over.”

Everton will also be without another player, who has been suspended pending a police investigation.

The star has not been allowed to travel with the club after being released on bail last week.

The statement on the club’s official site read: “Everton can confirm it has suspended a player pending a police investigation.

“The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.”
